Failed WD Blue Hard Drive
The hard disk drive may not start due to the quality of incoming voltage. If the nominal value is low, the controller will not be able to start. In addition, the built-in sensor regularly monitors the state of the power supply form. It is also able to block the system in case of deviation.

Magnetic Read/Write Heads Damage
This severe malfunction usually occurs after the disk falls from a certain height. It is the sticking of magnetic heads or a wedge of the spindle motor shaft. At the same time, the HDD power supply is regular, but for physical reasons, the motor rotor is not able to turn.
Usually, this failure is associated with a path loss, which can completely block the normal rotation of the shaft. A jammed disk makes a high-pitched squeaking sound, and its case heats up to significant temperatures. However, data recovery is possible in such a data loss situation and must only be performed in a specialized laboratory.
HDD With Damaged PCB
The hard disk drive may not start if the disk has problems with electronics, burnout of electronic board elements from static voltage, controller malfunction, or broken circuit. The hard drive is spun to the required speeds but not determined by the computer. Data recovery, in this case, is possible only by qualified specialists in special conditions, such as ISO Certified Class 10 Cleanroom.
Another reason for the PCB failure of HDD calibration is the damage to service information stored directly on the hard drive or in its ROM of non-volatile memory.
Failed WD Blue Hard Drive Recovery
The most unpleasant feature of modern external drives WD 2.5 is their “dial” USB interface – the input is attacked directly on the external board of electronics. There are no standard ports for the rest of the adapter manufacturers of SATA to USB. The user-friendly USB interface makes the data recovery process more complex.

Our Recent WD Blue Recovery Case
Recently we received a WD Blue 2.5” hard drive. It was a photographer’s drive, and he needed all the files to be recovered as soon as possible. So after consulting with our customer service team, he decided to request our emergency data retrieval services. This recovery procedure takes 8-48 hours to recover all the essential files fully.
The client left the failed drive at our drop-off point, and it was delivered to our lab. Our engineers ran diagnostics. The magnetic platters were spinning with the required speed, but the drive was not shown in the BIOS. We opened the HDD in our cleanroom and found that the PCB did not operate correctly.
The first step in recovering this drive was changing the controller and transferring the data to a brand new hard drive. Our data recovery specialists unsoldered a controller from the exact same WD Blue 2.5” hard drive and soldered it back to the customer’s device.
On the controller, there is a firmware unique for this disk. Without copying the firmware, another controller cannot initialize and load into the energy-dependent memory adapters from the surface and the ROM.
In order to recover data from the failed hard disk when replacing the board, it is necessary that the motor chip and main chip labels on the control board are identical. We ensured that the labels were the same and started the recovery process. We transferred the data to a new drive.
Some files were seen as corrupt, so the final step was to encrypt corrupted files. The recovery was finished 98% of the files were successfully recovered.
