USB flash drives are widely used to store, transfer and exchange information. Due to the variety of data storage devices, their application range is extremely wide.

Regardless of how users depend on these devices, flash drives are exposed to failures. The main thing is not to write anything to damaged media. This is a simple and fundamental rule, but there are often cases when a user tries to recover his data and writes the result immediately to a USB flash drive.

So if essential files on a flash drive were accidentally deleted, then you can get all the information only with the help of specialized companies. Do not work with a flash drive if any failure occurs. Remove it correctly from the USB port, and call us for a consultation at (888) 611-0737. Verbatim USB Memory Controller Failure

Memory chips are quite specific in terms of addressing, writing, and storing data, which is determined by their architecture.

The Following Rules are Defined for NAND-Flash:

  • The memory is divided into blocks, with a size of the order of units of Megabytes.
  • Before writing to a memory block, it must be erased. On erasure, all data bytes in the block are set to 0xFF.
  • The block consists of pages with a size of the order of tens of Kilobytes.

The flash drive may fail from external damage due to overheating or excessive use. Hence, the NAND chips on the flash drive surface may get corrupted if exposed to overheating.

Verbatim USB Chip Off Recovery

Recently we received an evaluation request for a Verbatim USB flash drive. The client said that the media storage was not seen when he tried to transfer the data. After consulting with our customer service, the customer decided to proceed with our professional data retrieval solutions. The customer shipped the device to our laboratory, and we started the recovery process right away.

Toshiba Flash Drive

Our engineers ran diagnostics and checked NAND chips in the Certified ISO Class 10 Cleanroom to find the failure reason.  They saw that the file system was damaged, and the folder structure and file names were missing. Then they scanned the flash media to collect information about file fragments and build a directory tree.

USB Drive File System Recovery

The file system failure occurred due to NAND chip damage. Our engineers decided to apply a chip-off solution for this case. In this option, they took the memory chips and cleaned them from any mount they had. Then the chips were read on a chip reader to collect all the available data and further recover corrupted files.

Most flash drives are in FAT or NTFS format. Within the recovery process, our engineers noticed that the file system was set in a completely different format – RAW. It meant the absence of any format, which resulted in problems with the device. Operating System cannot read RAW, so the flashcard must be converted to a traditional format. The easiest way is formatting, but the data will be cleared from memory. This option was unsuitable as we needed to save all the essential files.

After reading data on every memory chip, they were able to assemble the file system and access all the files. Some of the documents were corrupted, so our data recovery experts encrypted them to achieve maximum results.

All recovered files were delivered to the customer on a new flash drive. He reviewed all the files and approved the recovery process.
